Project Director – Risk Management
AECOM is currently recruiting for a Project Director – Risk Management to join our growing risk team at either our London, Manchester, Birmingham, or Bristol offices.
Job Description
As a Project Director, you’ll be responsible for leading our risk management capability across AECOM’s major infrastructure projects across multiple sectors.
Reporting into the AECOM Integrated Programme Controls team, the Project Director will engage with senior stakeholders and clients. You’ll work closely with internal staff, client representatives, and sub-contractors to develop a deep understanding of risk exposure while implementing appropriate governance frameworks and supporting informed decision-making.
This senior role includes managing an established team of risk consultants, supporting capital projects across the UK and potentially global projects and programmes.
Key Accountabilities
- Act as the risk management lead for high-value projects and programmes
- Engage with project teams to ensure effective implementation of risk management frameworks
- Provide direct risk management input to bids and proposals to secure new business
- Conduct risk assurance checks to uphold project/programme risk management standards
- Communicate key project/programme risk data to senior leadership
- Produce comprehensive risk reports for decision-making
- Coach and mentor staff in risk management best practices
- Facilitate identification, assessment, and prioritisation of risks
- Develop and implement Risk Registers, Risk Management Plans, and Risk Mitigation Plans
- Perform Quantitative Risk Analysis (QCRA & QSRA), utilising Monte-Carlo simulations to define project contingency levels
- Design and implement risk management frameworks for complex projects/programmes
- Support cost/scheduling, project controls and change management teams as required

What We’re Looking For
AECOM seeks a Project Director with ideally the following experience and credentials:
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or holding a risk management qualification (e.g., MOR, APM Risk, IRM)
- Proven experience in high-level, multi-discipline project environments
- Proficiency in Industry Risk Management Tools (ARM, Xactium, RiskHive, Predict)
- Quantitative Risk Analysis expertise (QCRA, QSRA) using tools such as Safran, Primavera Risk Analyser, @Risk
- Process governance experience (ISO31000, Institute of Risk Management, or APM risk methodologies)
- Team leadership experience with risk professionals
- Flexibility to travel across multiple sectors as projects demand
- Strong facilitation skills
- Hands-on experience in engineering and construction management
- Familiarity with current project management methodologies and tools
