We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate / Senior Associate to join our Legal 500: Tier 1 defendant professional indemnity team in Leeds or Manchester.
The role
We're looking for an experienced lawyer to join our defendant professional indemnity team in Leeds. This is an exciting chance to work on high-quality, complex matters for leading insurers and professionals nationwide.
The role focuses on professional indemnity work, acting for lawyers, construction specialists, accountants, and insurance brokers. You'll collaborate closely with Partners Neil Howes and Liam Burnett as part of our national Insurance Disputes team, headed by Niall Innes, and supported by a dedicated professional support lawyer.
We're looking for someone with a strong background in professional indemnity and/or commercial litigation, gained in private practice at a large regional or City firm, or in-house with a major insurer or MGA. Experience of the professional indemnity insurance market is desirable but not essential.
We will welcome applications from candidates based out of Manchester or Leeds. Where the candidate is based from Manchester, there will be a requirement to attend the Leeds office at least one day per week.
The person
You'll have proven experience managing complex, high-value professional indemnity claims, and strong client relationship skills. You'll bring exceptional communication and commercial awareness, alongside lateral thinking and problem-solving ability.
The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to influence and collaborate within a team, and enthusiasm for mentoring and supervising others. Strong time and matter management, adaptability, and a proactive, self-starting approach are essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
