About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Associate/Senior Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer to join our client’s Building Services team. This is a leadership-focused role that bridges technical delivery, client management, business development, and team leadership.
The successful candidate will bring strong mechanical building services design and project delivery experience, alongside expertise in client relationship management, new business development, and leading multidisciplinary teams. You will contribute significantly to project shaping from feasibility to construction, ensuring exceptional service delivery and commercial success.
Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain key client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor across the entire project lifecycle.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities through networking, leveraging existing client relationships, and developing tender submissions.
- Oversee end-to-end project delivery, from feasibility and concept design through to construction and handover.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and aligned with client expectations.
- Manage multiple complex projects across diverse sector applications.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering professional growth.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration.
- Oversee and review technical mechanical design throughout all project phases.
- Attend and lead client meetings, design reviews, and project progress updates.
- Conduct site inspections and provide construction-stage guidance to project teams.
- Monitor project profitability, including resource allocation and commercial performance.
- Support strategic business objectives through long-term planning and collaboration with senior leadership.

Requirements
Core Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 8+ years in UK-based Building Services Consultancy, with proven success in technical design and project management.
- Leadership and managerial expertise, including team leadership and efficient project delivery.
- Client relationship management experience, with a proactive, consultative, and client-focused approach.
- Disciplined business development track record, demonstrating opportunity identification and win success.
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) in progress or already achieved through CIBSE, IMechE, or equivalent professional bodies.
- Adept at mechanical, electrical, public health, and sustainability integration within building services design.
- In-depth knowledge of British Standards, Building Regulations, and industry best practices.
- Commercially aware with experience managing budgets and ensuring project profitability.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Up-to-date with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
