Associate Software Engineer | PHP | Publishing Services
Location: London

Are you a PHP Developer looking to grow your full stack experience in a small, collaborative team, where your work genuinely makes an impact? As Associate Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to develop your Laravel and React.js skills, whilst playing a key role in supporting the transition from a NativePHP codebase.

Our partner develops specialist software used by publishing organisations around the world to manage key operational workflows including title management, rights, royalties, editorial and production processes. Although relatively small in size, the business operates internationally and has built a reputation for delivering practical, reliable systems that help publishers work more efficiently while improving visibility across complex publishing operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and improve full stack web applications as part of a close-knit development team.
- Support and enhance existing legacy systems built with PHP, jQuery, and MySQL.
- Build backend functionality using Laravel, including the development of RESTful APIs.
- Create responsive and user-friendly interfaces using React.js.
- Contribute to technical discussions, problem solving, and ongoing product improvements across architecture, UI/UX, and system performance.

The right candidate is a curious and capable developer who enjoys working across the full technology stack and contributing to a small team environment. The right person will be comfortable balancing modern development practices with maintaining and improving legacy systems, while collaborating closely with colleagues to deliver practical software solutions.
Essential
- Experience with PHP frameworks or supporting legacy PHP applications.
- Some knowledge of Laravel (PHP) and React.js.
- Familiarity with MySQL databases and writing efficient queries.
- Experience working with REST APIs and tools such as Postman.
- Comfortable using Git and command-line tools for version control and collaboration.
Desirable
- Experience designing or integrating RESTful APIs.
- Awareness of UI/UX principles with a thoughtful approach to interface design.
- Exposure to agile or scrum development environments.
- Familiarity with Linux server setup or administration.

- Salary: c.£35k, DOE
- Working Pattern: Hybrid working with a minimum of three days per week in the London office, Monday to Friday (some flexibility around working hours)
