Associate Software Engineer
Permanent Associate Software Engineer
- Grade: B
- Salary: £28,598 - £34,434 per annum (Consultation grade, subject to formal evaluation under the Equal Pay Programme)
- Hours: 36.5 hours per week
About the Role
We’re looking for a motivated Associate Software Engineer to join our growing digital and technology team. This is an exciting opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, develop your coding skills, and help shape the digital solutions that drive better services for our customers and communities.
In this hands-on role, you’ll:
- Work alongside senior engineers to design, build, test, and maintain high-quality digital software systems, integrations, and interfaces.
- Be supported at every step to deliver real business value through clean, secure, and reusable code.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Collaborate with senior team members to design, develop, and test digital solutions that improve service delivery.
- Translate business and user requirements into high-quality, maintainable code using modern frameworks and tools.
- Support software engineering projects that enhance customer-facing and back-office systems.
- Apply software development best practices, including:
- Test-driven development (TDD)
- Pair programming
- Continuous integration
- Work with business analysts, UX designers, and service designers to ensure a seamless connection between vision and delivery.
- Contribute to the design and prototyping of new in-house software solutions that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
- Help optimise code, improve efficiency, and support automation and self-service for users.
- Embrace agile and collaborative working to solve problems and drive continuous improvement.

We’re looking for someone who demonstrates:
