The Opportunity
An established, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate Structural Engineer to join its growing structural engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Engineer looking to take on a senior leadership role, managing complex projects, developing client relationships, and helping to shape the future growth of a successful consultancy.
The role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of projects including commercial, residential, education, healthcare, industrial, and mixed-use developments.
The Role Of Associate Structural Engineer
As an Associate Structural Engineer, you will lead the delivery of structural engineering projects from concept through to completion, managing multidisciplinary teams while ensuring technical excellence, commercial performance, and exceptional client service.
You will also play an important role in mentoring engineers, supporting business development, and contributing to the strategic direction of the business.
Key Responsibilities Of This Associate Structural Engineer Role
- Lead structural engineering projects through all project stages.
- Manage project teams, resources, programmes, and budgets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership and review structural calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications.
- Mentor and develop engineers and technicians across all levels.
- Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, Eurocodes, British Standards, CDM Regulations, and relevant legislation.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
- Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Support business development through fee proposals, client meetings, and securing new opportunities.
- Promote innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement across the engineering team.

About You
You will be a confident and commercially aware Chartered Structural Engineer with extensive experience delivering structural engineering projects within a UK consultancy environment.
Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IStructE or ICE.
- Significant post-qualification experience delivering structural engineering projects within the UK.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Eurocodes
- British Standards
- UK Building Regulations
- CDM Regulations
- Experience designing structures in:
- Reinforced concrete
- Structural steel
- Timber
- Masonry
- Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project finances.

Desirable
- Experience working on complex or high-rise developments.
- Experience in refurbishment and adaptive reuse projects.
- Established industry contacts and client relationships.
- Knowledge of sustainable and low-carbon structural design.
- Demonstrable success in business development and winning new work.
Software Experience
Experience with one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- Tekla Structural Designer
- SCIA Engineer
- Tedds
- MasterSeries
- AutoCAD
- Revit (BIM)
- Navisworks
