Associate Technical Director – Rail South, West & Wales
Location: Rail South, West & Wales | UK | Hybrid Working

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Associate Technical Director to join our Rail South, West & Wales Business Unit, supporting the delivery of major rail structures projects across the region. Working as part of our Rail South, West & Wales Civil & Structural Engineering team, you will provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio, including:
- Depots and maintenance facilities
- Bridge replacements
- Station upgrade and new-build schemes
This is an excellent opportunity for a collaborative and client-focused leader who enjoys solving complex challenges, developing high-performing teams, and shaping the growth of our rail business.
Role Accountabilities
- Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary rail projects, guiding:
- Design development
- Decision-making
- Technical assurance To deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Build strong relationships with:
- Clients
- Stakeholders
- Project teams Offering trusted advice throughout the project lifecycle and supporting successful delivery.
- Support project and design managers with:
- Technical governance
- Resource planning
- Safety-critical reviews
- Effective delivery of complex design work.
- Mentor and develop engineers within the team by:
- Chairing technical reviews
- Promoting a culture of:
- Collaboration
- Innovation
- Continuous improvement
- Health and safety
- Contribute to work-winning and business growth, including:
- Strengthening client relationships
- Expanding market presence
- Helping shape regional growth strategies.

Qualifications & Experience
- Degree: BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional Status: Chartered Engineer through a recognised professional institution.
- Experience:
- Significant experience leading the technical delivery of:
- Rail structures projects
- Multidisciplinary rail infrastructure projects
- Expertise in design assurance, health and safety, and safety-critical processes.
- Ability to fulfil the role of Contractor’s Engineering Manager under NR/L2/INI/02009 if required.
- Significant experience leading the technical delivery of:
- Soft Skills:
- Proven ability to build client relationships
- Lead technical teams
- Support business development
- Mentor others in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
