Assistant Financial Accountant

Are you a part-qualified accountant or an experienced Accounts Assistant looking to progress into an Assistant Financial Accountant position? Do you want to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you'll gain exposure to all aspects of financial accounting while supporting a business operating within the sports industry?
We're recruiting for an Assistant Financial Accountant to join a growing finance team within a leading sports organisation. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you'll play an integral role in supporting month-end reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day finance operations.

The Role
As the Assistant Financial Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Managing intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
- Maintaining the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals and depreciation.
- Assisting with the annual external audit by preparing supporting schedules and documentation.
- Processing purchase invoices and managing supplier payment runs.
- Raising sales invoices and supporting credit control activities.
- Managing shared finance inboxes and responding to supplier and internal finance queries.
- Building strong working relationships with stakeholders across the business.
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting.

About You
We're looking for someone who is motivated, organised and keen to continue developing their accounting career.
You'll ideally have:
- Part-qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA, or at least two years' experience within an accounting or finance role.
- Experience supporting month-end close and posting journals.
- Strong reconciliation skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Exposure to statutory audits would be advantageous.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- The confidence to work effectively with both finance and non-finance teams.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Experience using Sage 50 is highly desirable, while Sage or Xero experience would be advantageous.
Previous experience within a fast-paced commercial environment is beneficial, and an interest in sport would be a distinct advantage.
