Job Overview
We are excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated and passionate individual to join our Children’s Services team as an Asthma and Allergy Friendly Schools Co-ordinator.
This role will play a key part in supporting the delivery and implementation of the Asthma and Allergy Friendly Schools initiative, working closely with schools, healthcare professionals, children, young people and their families to improve awareness, education and long-term management of asthma and allergies within educational settings.
The successful post holder will work collaboratively with internal and external partners to support schools in achieving Asthma and Allergy Friendly School status, helping to improve health outcomes for children and young people across the borough.

Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of the Asthma and Allergy Friendly Schools programme across the local area.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Supporting schools to work towards achieving Asthma and Allergy Friendly School accreditation
- Building and maintaining positive working relationships with schools, school nursing teams and wider healthcare professionals
- Acting as the main point of contact for schools participating in the programme
- Providing guidance and support to school staff around asthma and allergy management for children and young people
- Promoting available resources, training opportunities and best practice guidance
- Supporting children, young people and families in managing long-term health conditions within school environments
- Collecting and monitoring project data, surveys and outcome measures
- Producing reports and maintaining accurate records to support project evaluation
- Attending meetings with internal and external stakeholders to support programme delivery
- Supporting continuous improvement and helping identify opportunities to strengthen the initiative across participating schools

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The Asthma and Allergy Friendly Schools Co-ordinator will play an important role in ensuring the effective day-to-day delivery of this health improvement initiative across local schools.
The post holder will work closely with schools, healthcare professionals and families to support schools through the accreditation process, ensuring the appropriate systems, education and resources are in place to create safer environments for children living with asthma and allergies.
The role requires excellent communication and relationship-building skills, as the successful candidate will regularly engage with school leaders, school nursing teams, community health professionals and partner organisations to provide advice, support and guidance throughout the programme.
The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload independently, prioritising competing demands while ensuring programme targets and deadlines are achieved. Responsibilities will include coordinating meetings, collecting project data, producing reports and supporting the wider evaluation of the initiative to measure impact and identify areas for improvement.
This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong organisational skills, confidence working across multiple stakeholders and a passion for improving health outcomes for children and young people.
The role will involve regular travel to schools and community settings across the borough, and the successful candidate will need to be flexible, proactive and comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes Hospital.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, Goodmayes)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,870 to a maximum of £6,137 p.a. pro rata for part time).
