About

Are you a Newly Qualified Social Worker or do you qualify in the upcoming months? Have you recently finished, or are you about to finish your ASYE and are now looking to find the best opportunities to develop and progress in the first steps of your career? Come and join Dorset for a supportive and exciting start to your new career. Recently rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted, inspectors commented that 'practitioners have been resolute in universally saying that they feel supported, valued and receive regular and helpful individual and group supervision. They feel equipped with a wealth of resources and training. Practitioners’ relentless dedication to ensure children, families and care leavers receive the support they need shone through in this inspection.'

Make Dorset the Next Step in Your Social Work Career

We understand that your first years as a social worker are so important for your career. We have ASYE opportunities where you will be supported by a team with a wealth of experience and knowledge. If you are joining us for your ASYE year, you will join our ASYE programme where you will have:

  • A reduced caseload
  • Protected development time
  • Shadowing opportunities
  • Mentoring support from an experienced social worker
  • Access to Peer Support groups
  • Specific ASYE training and learning development opportunities

We are delighted that Dorset has been recognised for its fantastic work with children, young people and families by being selected as one of only three initial pathfinder sites nationally, testing the delivery of key reforms across the sector as part of the Families First for Children programme. We are looking for people who have a genuine interest in restorative practice and a strengths-based approach to building effective relationships with children, families, and communities.

So, if you are committed to making a difference to the lives of children and young people, we want to hear from you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
