Assistant Technical Officer – Decontamination Services
About the Role
The Assistant Technical Officer is a critical role within Decontamination Services at King’s Mill Hospital, essential for maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality care across the NHS Trust.
Working within Sterile Services, Mattress Decontamination, or Endoscopy, the role involves supporting the delivery of a safe, efficient, and responsive service through the handling, cleaning, decontaminating, reprocessing, sterilising, and tracking of:
- Essential medical equipment
- Surgical instruments
- Endoscopes
- Specialist mattresses
Every processed item plays a vital role in supporting safe and effective patient care across theatres, wards, and clinical departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate specialist decontamination equipment under strict protocols
- Follow infection prevention and quality standards rigorously
- Maintain full traceability of processed items through digital tracking systems
- Support the cleaning, reprocessing, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment
- Work in a fast-paced, detail-focused healthcare environment, ensuring accuracy and quality in all tasks
- Contribute to fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement
- Provide meaningful support to clinical teams, ensuring they have the equipment necessary for excellent patient care
