Role Summary

XS209a Grade 7 Salary: £18,324–£20,179 pro rata per annum (pay award pending) Hours: 30 roles per week Contract: Term time only + one inset day Permanent post Start date: 1st September 2026

The Attendance Officer role at The Purbeck School supports the Pastoral Support Team in improving student attendance and maximising educational outcomes. The ideal candidate is highly organised and self-motivated.


About the Role

You’ll work to:

  • Liaise with families, schools, and external agencies to maintain student attendance.
  • Monitor registers, verify absence reasons, and identify persistent non-attendance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to raise achievement through improved attendance and punctuality.
  • Drive initiative to meet the school’s attendance targets.

This role is critical for supporting students to fulfil their potential and ensuring consistent learning.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and verify attendance registers daily.
  • Track and investigate patterns of truantcy or unauthorised absences.
  • Communicate with parents/carers via holistic engagement strategies.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., safeguarding, social care) to address barriers to attendance.
  • Collect and analyse attendance data to report progress.

Requirements

  • Essential:

    • Strong organisation and interpersonal skills for managing sensitive conversations.
    • Ability to work independently with initiative.
    • Basic knowledge of pastoral welfare principles.
    • Requisite Right to Work in the UK.
  • Desirable:

    • Previous experience in educational settings or youth welfare.
    • Familiarity with child safeguarding protocols.
