About the Role
John Taylor Multi Academy Trust (JTMAT) is dedicated to transforming lives through education. As a partner school of JTMAT, we seek an Attendance & SEND Officer to support the efficient management of student attendance records and Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) data.
This critical role ensures compliance with statutory requirements while providing vital administrative support to stakeholders, including teaching staff, Education Welfare Officers, and external professionals.
The successful candidate will be a first point of contact for parents/carers regarding attendance concerns, deliver timely attendance interventions, and contribute to coordinated whole-school strategies to enhance attendance and SEND provisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with parents/carers, staff, Education Welfare Officers, and external agencies (e.g., Local Authority SEN Teams) to improve attendance outcomes
- Coordinate attendance review meetings to identify trends and barriers to learning, proposing targeted support solutions
- Manage all attendance data – input, maintain, and analyse reports to ensure compliance with school attendance policy and government regulations
- Support SEND processes, including arranging and attending annual reviews for SEND students
- Provide timely, accurate information to SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and senior leaders to inform teaching and pastoral strategies
- Collaborate with term-time absence panels to submit findings and recommendations in line with legal timescales
- Maintain accurate departmental records and ensure confidentiality is upheld
- Liaise with principals/core leaders on attendance and SEND-related matters
- Promote a positive, proactive culture around attendance and an inclusive approach to SEND provision

Essential Requirements
- Qualifications:
- Level 3 qualification in SEND or equivalent would be desirable but not essential
- Attendance-related training or experience a strong plus
- Skills/Experience:
- Administrative expertise in updating logs, maintaining databases, and producing reports
- Attention to detail for accuracy in multiple compliance processes
- Positive attitude towards collaboration with parents/carers, staff, and external professionals
- Practical knowledge of SEND regulations (e.g., SEND Code of Practice) and attendance laws (e.g., Education Act 2011, local authority guidance).
- Attitudes:
- Strong belief in enabling all children equal access to education
- Problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement strategies to reduce unauthorised absences
- Confidentiality when handling sensitive individual and household data
Desirable
- Experience in school administration or safeguarding environments
- Familiarity with collaboration systems (e.g., school-based SEND teams, referral portals, local authority platforms)
- Basic technical skills in e.g., Microsoft Office Suite
