Audience Writer (Freelance)

Location: HSK, London, W8 5HY

Position: Freelance

About the role

The i Paper is seeking a freelance Audience Writer to join our newsroom as we expand our efforts to engage new readers. This is a newly created role that blends writing with visually led content curation, requiring a talent for crafting original material and existing journalism.

You will pitch daily story ideas based on trends and performance data and create content across a wide range of topics for various platforms. Working closely with the Audience team, you will contribute to a busy newsroom with fresh and engaging content. This position offers a unique chance to develop expertise in audience engagement while supporting The i Paper’s mission of providing non-partisan reporting and intelligent opinion.

Main Responsibilities

  • Expand The i Paper’s audience on various platforms by writing and content
  • Apply strong visual skills to illustrate a story with eye-catching, appealing images
  • Pitch daily story ideas informed by trends and audience data
  • Produce content on a wide range of topics
  • Source and write original features in line with The i Paper’s values
  • Craft engaging headlines and copy designed to inform and entertain

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, with experience in a fast-paced media environment
  • Strong eye for visuals and an understanding of how to use images to tell a story
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team

Desired:

  • Awareness of emerging platforms and trends in digital media
  • Proficient in using audience data to guide content strategies
