Audio Visual – Technical Lead

Salary: £30,000–£35,000 (depending on experience) Location: London, UK


Position Overview

The Technical Lead is a key contact responsible for planning, setting up, and operating small to large-scale audio-visual (AV) systems for live events. This role ensures exceptional client satisfaction while acting as a team leader for onsite AV teams. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating departmental resources
  • Contributing to department improvements
  • Occasionally deputising for the Technical Manager/Group Head

This position reports to the Technical Manager relevant to the department.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Operation

  • Execute flawless event outcomes through accurate and timely setup, operation, and breakdown of advanced AV equipment.
  • Quickly troubleshoot and resolve technical issues on-site.
  • Comply with all company security and safety measures, including reporting health and safety issues as required.
  • Ensure equipment security from theft or damage during use.

Customer Service

  • Provide excellent, world-class service to internal and external clients.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through effective communication.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to solve event challenges and optimise customer satisfaction.
  • Build and support hotel/venue/client relationships.

Training & Staff Development

  • Foster a development-driven culture, empowering colleagues in technical and leadership skills.
  • Offer mentorship and coaching to technical, sales, and operational teams.

Event Supervision

  • Lead advanced pre-event, on-event, and post-event operations.
  • Supervise and direct technicians during events.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Assist with preparation, security, storage, transport, and maintenance of AV assets.
  • Conduct inventory forecasting for equipment needs.

Local/Regional Deputising

  • Assume regional/departmental operational ownership, enabling the Technical Manager/Group Head to focus on day-to-day priorities.
  • Train and coach junior staff to ensure high-performance delivery.
  • Oversee local/regional operational tasks independently.

Job Qualifications

  • 4+ years of field AV experience (required).
  • Preferred: 3–5 years in customer service or hospitality.
  • Ability to professionally engage with diverse teams, clients, and senior leadership.
  • Proven project management experience across multiple initiatives.
  • Strong customer, client, and co-worker interface skills.
