Assistant Audit Manager – External Audit (Birmingham)
Salary: £45,000–£50,000 + benefits
Cherry Professional is working with a well-established accountancy firm in Birmingham to recruit a Qualified Assistant Audit Manager to join a growing external audit team. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong UK statutory audit experience who’s ready to take more ownership of engagements, support junior colleagues, and build trusted client relationships.
The role
You’ll take responsibility for planning, leading, and delivering a portfolio of UK external audit assignments, ensuring work is completed to a high standard, on time, and within budget.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing audit engagements from planning through to completion and file sign-off
- Leading on-site and remote audit fieldwork, coordinating team workloads and timelines
- Reviewing audit work, coaching, and developing auditors/trainees
- Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and related audit deliverables
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, building strong working relationships
- Identifying issues and providing clear, practical recommendations to clients and senior stakeholders
- Supporting managers/partners with pipeline activity, proposals, and internal projects as needed

What we’re looking for
Essential:
- ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
- Strong UK external audit experience gained within a practice environment
- Experience leading audits, supervising team members, and reviewing work
- Confident communicator with the ability to manage client expectations
- Strong planning and organizational skills, able to manage multiple deadlines

Desirable:
- Experience working with a broad SME client base (owner-managed businesses, groups, not-for-profit, etc.)
- Exposure to audit file completion/review and supporting finalisation meetings
- Progression mindset—keen to develop towards Audit Manager
