Audit Director

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid) Salary: Up to £125,000 (Negotiable, depending on experience)

Butler Rose Public Practice is excited to support a forward-thinking client as they expand across the West Midlands. We are seeking a motivated audit professional eager to grow their career and embrace a challenging yet rewarding Audit Director position. The role focuses on business development, driving growth, and fostering a top-performing audit team.

About the Role

  • Acting as an ambassador for the firm, demonstrating strong leadership both internally and externally.
  • Supporting audits for complex clients and directing audit teams as needed.
  • Conducting Risk Improvement (RI) responsibility for suitable clients, progressing towards more complex engagements over time.
  • Leading client meetings and managing engagements across your portfolio.
  • Supporting business development initiatives, identifying opportunities to win new work.
  • Building and expanding your own client portfolio over time.
  • Collaborating closely with Partners and other teams to help grow the Birmingham office.
  • Contributing to the development of the audit function, including process improvement, training, and quality assurance.
  • Strengthening interdepartmental relationships to support the firm’s overall success.
  • Promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion across teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and developing high-performing audit teams.
  • Maintaining strong technical audit expertise while managing complex client engagements.
  • Driving commercial growth through proactive business development.

  • Fostering collaborative leadership and a culture of DI&I (Diversity, Inclusion & Equality).

Essential Requirements

  • Significant experience in audit within a professional services environment.
  • RI (Risk Improvement) status, or a clear ambition and capability to achieve it.
  • Strong technical audit and risk management knowledge.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor teams.
  • Excellent client-facing and intra-team communication skills.
  • A commercially minded approach to identifying growth opportunities.
  • The confidence to represent the firm and drive business development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative leadership and diversity.
