Description
Our award-winning Nonprofit team delivers a comprehensive range of audit and accounting services, alongside tailored advisory offerings to the sector. We work with a diverse client base including charities, educational bodies, trade associations and membership organisations. According to the Charity Finance Audit Survey, our charity team has ranked top for client service among the top 10 specialist firms in England over the last 10 years, and was ranked top for charity expertise in 2025.
As a Manager in the team, you will take ownership of a portfolio of nonprofit clients (typically £500k-£700k), delivering high-quality audit and accounts assignments to agreed deadlines. You will work closely with Partners, acting as the key day-to-day contact for clients and leading the delivery of engagements.
You will bring strong technical expertise in the nonprofit sector, a proactive approach to managing client relationships, and the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders, including Trustees and Governors. You will also contribute to business development activity, including supporting tenders and identifying opportunities to grow client relationships.

Key Responsibilities
Client & portfolio management
Manage a portfolio of nonprofit clients, acting as the primary day-to-day contact Build strong client relationships, providing clear advice and explaining technical concepts in a practical way Liaise with clients, HMRC and other professional advisors to ensure effective delivery of services
Audit & accounts delivery
Lead audit and accounts assignments from planning through to completion, including:
Planning, budgeting and resourcing engagements Managing timelines and ensuring delivery to agreed deadlines Delegating work and overseeing team performance Monitoring progress and proactively addressing issues Reviewing files, ensuring quality and compliance with relevant standards Delivering clear debriefs and feedback to the team Preparing assignments for Partner review, ensuring work is complete, accurate and well-presented Working closely with Tax specialists where required
Team leadership
Lead, coach and develop junior team members, supporting their technical and professional development Provide clear, timely and constructive feedback Promote a collaborative, high-performing team environment

Business development & firm contribution
Support the development of client relationships, identifying opportunities to expand services Contribute to the preparation and delivery of client tenders and proposals Represent the firm at client meetings, seminars and relevant sector events Promote the firm’s values and contribute to the wider success of MKS
Operational & Commercial Responsibilities
Contribute to effective engagement management, including budgeting and financial performance Support billing and WIP management in collaboration with Partners Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies within the team
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
ACA / ACCA (or equivalent) qualified Proven experience managing a client portfolio of similar size and complexity Strong nonprofit audit experience Good working knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards Technically strong with a high level of attention to detail Strong organisational and time management skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Proactive, adaptable and able to use initiative Ability to lead, motivate and develop others Commercial awareness and an interest in business development
