Audit Semi-Senior Join Our Expanding Team in Colchester
About the Role

We are currently seeking an Ambitious Audit Semi-Senior to join our growing team in Colchester. This ideal role suits an Audit Assistant eager to progress in their career, assuming greater responsibility within a supportive and professional environment.
We encourage closer collaboration across the audit chain with Audit Seniors, Managers and Partners to successfully deliver high-quality audit services across our diverse client base.
You’ll gain practical exposure to all stages of the audit process, including planning, fieldwork, and completion. You’ll grow professionally, enhancing your technical expertise, commercial awareness, and client relationship skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, execution and completion of audit assignments.
- Conduct audit fieldwork adhering to firm methodology and auditing standards.
- Identify key audit risks and contribute to developing appropriate audit responses.
- Test, evaluate, and validate internal controls, systems and financial information.
- Investigate audit findings, anomalies and irregularities, escalating important issues as required.
- Prepare comprehensive audit working papers.
- Support in drafting audit reports and completion documentation.
- Develop a deep understanding of clients’ businesses, sectors, and operating environments.
- Offer practical recommendations to improve clients’ systems, controls, and processes.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Stay abreast of the latest auditing standards, accounting principles and regulatory changes.
- Effectively manage workloads to meet deadlines and consistently exceed client expectations.
- Contribute to the commercial success of the department through efficient service delivery and exceptional client service.
- Perform other duties as directed by Partners, Managers or clients.

About You
We’re searching for a candidate with the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 12 months’ experience in an external audit setting.
- Audit practice experience within an accountancy firm.
- Proficiency in audit testing techniques and audit working papers preparation.
- Experience using audit and accounts production software.
Technical Skills
- Strong foundational knowledge of auditing standards and accounting principles.
- In-depth understanding of UK financial reporting, including FRS 102 compliance.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant IT tools.
- Ability to analyse financial data and identify key audit risks.
Personal Attributes
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, capable of juggling multiple assignments.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly proactive problem solver.
- Meticulous attention to detail and quality commitment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

- Takes ownership of responsibilities while recognising when to seek support.

Additional Notes
- Role: Audit
- Contract type: Permanent
- Working hours: Mon–Fri (37.5 hrs/week) with flexibility
- Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 per annum, increased for exceptional experience or qualifications
