Company Description

C & V CARMICHAEL LIMITED is a structural steel fabrication company, blacksmith, and plant welding specialist based in Fife. The company manages steel and fabrication projects from initial design through to full installation, offering end-to-end service to clients across sectors. Its well-equipped workshop is supported by highly skilled fabricators with extensive experience in structural steel, custom metalwork, and site welding. Projects range from new steel structures to gates, railings, and bespoke metal fabrications, providing variety and technical challenges. Team members collaborate closely to deliver high-quality workmanship and practical solutions for commercial and domestic clients.

Role Description

The Autocad Drafter will produce accurate technical drawings and detailed plans for structural steel fabrications, gates, railings, and related metalwork using CAD software. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

The role involves coordinating with workshop and site teams to ensure drawings are practical for manufacture and installation, and verifying dimensions, materials, and connection details. The Autocad Drafter will also:

  • Maintain organized drawing records
  • Support design adjustments during projects
  • Adhere to company standards and safety requirements

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Cowdenbeath.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong skills in Technical Drawing and general Drawing for steel fabrication and metalwork projects.
  • Candidates should possess experience in creating and interpreting Shop Drawings for workshop production and site installation.
  • Candidates should possess the ability to work with Architectural Drawings and understand Architecture-related design requirements.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software, with the ability to produce precise 2D drawings and plans.
  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in drafting, engineering, or construction-related discipline.
  • Understanding of structural steel components, fabrication processes, and basic engineering principles.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to read and interpret technical specifications, and commitment to accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with fabricators, welders, engineers, and management on-site.
  • Prior experience in a structural steel, metal fabrication, or construction environment is an advantage.
