I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We have an exciting opportunity, first of its kind here at Metro Rod support centre. We are looking for a CAD Drainage Survey Processor - Environmental & Drainage to join our growing team. This is a full-time role, perfect for someone who’s qualified in CAD, has worked on drainage drawings/digitising plans - adding information such as GPS data, loves technical design work, and wants to dive into real projects from day one.
You’ll be working closely with our Projects team to turn early-stage concepts into clear, accurate drainage layouts. If you enjoy problem-solving, playing with layouts, and seeing your designs come to life on real sites — you’ll love this role.
What does it entail?
You’ll be at the heart of turning ideas into reality (well… underground reality). From creating proposed drainage layouts in AutoCAD to preparing OS tile plans ready for design, you’ll take raw information and shape it into clear, accurate visuals.
Working closely with the Project Manager, you’ll pick up projects right at the exciting pre-launch stage of new contract wins—getting everything set up and ready to roll.
Once our engineers have done their thing on site, the baton comes back to you. You’ll take their drawings, bring them into AutoCAD, and transform them into polished, client-ready plans.
It’s a full-circle role where you’ll see projects from early concept through to finished output—perfect for someone who loves detail, structure, and seeing their work make a real impact.
