Company Description
Working as a partnership, both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust share a vision for excellence in care for their patients and communities. This vision is supported by a set of strategic aims, with digital transformation and intelligent automation playing a key role in their delivery.
The combined corporate digital service is operational across both organisations. You may be based at either IWT (Isle of Wight Trust) or PHU (Portsmouth Hospitals), with possible travel between sites as required. For leadership roles managing staff across multiple locations, visibility and in-person leadership will be essential, with local agreements governing travel frequency.

Position Summary
Job Title: Automation Analyst (NHS Band 5)
Salary: £32,073 – £39,043 per annum
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Contract: Permanent
Location: Primary base at either:
- St Mary’s Hospital – Parkhurst Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5TG
- Building 4000, Lakeside, North Harbour, Cosham, Portsmouth, PO6 3EN Site travel may be required, with frequency agreed locally.
Job Summary
The Automation Analyst will support the delivery of intelligent automation and digital process improvement across both NHS Trusts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying, assessing, and documenting automation opportunities in collaboration with service leads, operational teams, automation developers, and digital colleagues.
- Supporting process discovery by understanding current processes, challenges, benefits, and risks.
- Creating process documentation, including process maps, requirements documents, test scenarios, and benefits tracking.
- Working with automation developers and stakeholders to translate business needs into clear automation requirements.
- Supporting user acceptance testing, monitoring automation performance, and ensuring compliance with information governance, data protection, and cybersecurity standards.
The role requires clear communication, collaboration, and problem-solving while ensuring automated solutions are well-documented, tested, and aligned with organisational standards.

Automation & Process Improvement

Support the identification, assessment, and documentation of automation and digital process improvement opportunities across both organisations.

Work with service leads and operational teams to understand current processes, challenges, risks, and expected outcomes.

Assist in creating process documentation, including:
- Process maps
- Requirements & definitions
- Test scenarios
- Benefits tracking

Collaborate with automation developers, senior developers, business analysts, and service leads to translate operational needs into structured automation requirements.
Testing & Monitoring
- Support user acceptance testing by preparing test scenarios, recording outcomes, and helping services understand automation behaviour.
- Monitor and report on automation performance, including:
- Exception handling
- Success rates
- Processing volumes
- Assist with reviewing existing automations by identifying trends, resolving exceptions, and supporting trouble-shooting.
Documentation & Governance
- Ensure accurate maintenance of documentation, including:
- Project records
- Meeting notes
- Process information (aligned with Trust standards)
- Support colleagues in understanding and adopting automated solutions.
- Ensure compliance with:
- Information Governance
- Data protection
- Cybersecurity requirements
Knowledge & Innovation
- Contribute to process improvement, testing, and innovation within the automation team.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing and skill development across the wider digital team.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Degree-level education (or equivalent experience) in:
- Information Technology
- Business Administration
- Healthcare
- Digital Transformation
- Related fields
- Experience working with:
- Operational processes
- Service improvement
- Business administration
- Digital systems
- Project support
- Ability to:
- Gather, document, and communicate business requirements clearly.
- Analyse processes, identify issues, and suggest improvements.
- Strong written communication skills to produce:

- Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, including:
