About The Role

This role exists to design, build and operate the automations, integrations and AI-driven tooling that support both internal operations and client delivery. Sitting at the intersection of engineering, operations and emerging AI capability, the Technical Automation & AI Engineer is accountable for turning repetitive, manual or error-prone processes into reliable, measurable automated workflows. Working within a mid-level capacity, this role collaborates closely with engineering, consulting and operations teams, contributing directly to improved efficiency, reduced error rates and increased delivery throughput across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build and maintain end-to-end automation workflows across internal tooling using appropriate low-code and no-code platforms, ensuring solutions are reliable, scalable and fit for purpose. Develop robust integrations between SaaS systems by applying sound understanding of APIs, authentication methods and event-driven patterns to enable seamless data flow across business systems. Build internal tools, scripts and lightweight services to bridge gaps between off-the-shelf platforms and operational needs, selecting the right approach between code and automation platforms. Identify and implement opportunities to embed AI and LLM capabilities into workflows, applying practical and production-ready patterns for use cases such as document processing, summarisation and classification. Partner with stakeholders to understand processes, assess inefficiencies, prioritise opportunities and deliver measurable improvements in time saved, accuracy and operational performance. Own the end-to-end reliability of solutions by implementing logging, monitoring, alerting and secure configuration practices, alongside maintaining clear operational runbooks. Contribute to engineering quality by writing clean, maintainable and version-controlled code and configurations, while supporting the development of internal standards and reusable components. Champion security, data protection and responsible AI practices across all automation and integration work. Support internal tooling and platform decisions by working with senior technical stakeholders to evaluate and guide technology choices.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who you are and how you’ll make an impact

You bring experience from a software engineering, automation, integration or internal tooling environment where you have delivered practical solutions that improve efficiency and reduce friction. You are comfortable working hands-on across both low-code platforms and traditional programming languages such as Python or TypeScript, making thoughtful decisions about when each approach is most effective.

Your experience working with APIs, webhooks and authentication patterns allows you to confidently integrate systems and design reliable workflows, while your exposure to common SaaS tools means you understand the realities of operational environments. You are familiar with modern AI and LLM tooling and can apply it pragmatically, focusing on safe, cost-effective and production-ready use rather than experimentation alone.

You operate with a strong sense of ownership, taking problems from discovery through to delivery and iteration. You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating needs into solutions and documenting your work in a way that enables others to understand and build on it. Your approach balances pragmatism with curiosity, allowing you to continuously improve systems while contributing to a culture of learning and experimentation.

A day in the life

A typical day involves working closely with stakeholders across operations, delivery and technical teams to progress automation initiatives already prioritised within the business. You might start by refining an automation workflow, improving its reliability through better logging or error handling, before moving on to building an integration between two SaaS platforms using APIs or webhooks.

Throughout the day, you collaborate with engineers and consultants to ensure solutions align with broader delivery goals, while also contributing to discussions around tooling, architecture and AI use cases. You may spend time prototyping an AI-enabled workflow, such as analysing internal communications or processing documents, before iterating it into a production-ready solution.

You regularly engage with data and reporting needs, working with teams such as finance or operations to transform manual processes into automated, insight-driven workflows, often leveraging cloud platforms. Alongside delivery, you maintain and improve existing automations, ensuring they remain secure, reliable and easy to operate, while documenting your work and contributing to shared standards.
