Automation Engineer (SC Cleared)
Location: Telford, UK (Hybrid – 2 Days per Week Onsite)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Experience: 5 - 12 Years
Note: Active SC Clearance is required for this position. (mandatory Criteria)
Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled and hands-on Automation Engineer with strong expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining robust test automation frameworks for enterprise-scale applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in UI, API, and database testing, a solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, and a passion for driving quality through automation.
This role requires a "hard-core" automation professional who can independently build automation solutions from the ground up while collaborating closely with developers, business analysts, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks.
- Create and execute automated test scripts for Web, API, and backend systems.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing.
- Develop automation strategies and ensure effective test coverage.
- Execute regression, functional, integration, and end-to-end automated testing.
- Analyze test results, identify defects, and work closely with development teams for resolution.
- Perform root cause analysis and provide recommendations for quality improvements.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
- Improve automation efficiency, maintainability, and execution speed.
- Mentor junior automation engineers and promote best testing practices.

Required Experience
- 6+ years of Automation Testing experience.
- Experience building automation frameworks from scratch.
- Strong expertise in Selenium, Java, TestNG, and API Automation.
- Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments.
- Exposure to enterprise-scale transformation programmes.
- Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have
- Financial Services or Public Sector experience.
- ISTQB Certification.
- Experience with HMRC, Government, or Banking projects.
- SC Clearance (where applicable).
