About the Role

AWC Staff Services are recruiting a National Grid Authorised Automation (Gate) Engineer to work for their utility client across the UK.

In this role, you will specialise in Gate Automation Installation, Service, and Maintenance while supporting critical national infrastructure—including electricity grids, power stations and transmission facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver automated gate systems compliant with BS EN 12453:2017 and DHF TS-013 safety standards.
  • Conduct Risk and Safety Function Assessments to ensure compliant installations.
  • Complete force testing (software/laptop proficiency required).
  • Manage day-to-day site work, staff, and project purchasing.
  • Maintain quality control through defect/work reporting and health & safety compliance.
  • Work closely with clients and project managers to align with specified processes.
  • Promote sustainable engineering practices (reuse/recycle material strategies).
  • On-call rota participation for emergency service needs.

Essential Competencies

✔ Proven experience in gate automation installation/service/maintenance. ✔ Mechanical and electrical/electronic fault-finding expertise. ✔ Strong problem-solving and detailed troubleshooting skills. ✔ Ability to demonstrate completed systems/client training effectively. ✔ Proficiency in component/equipment ordering and asset tagging. ✔ Experience working independently and collaboratively. ✔ Willingness to travel and work temporarily away from home. ✔ Proficiency in PC/IT (e.g., for DHF Software integration).

About You (Requirements)

  • Competency development: Will undertake a DHF Safety Assured Diploma during the role.
  • Diploma Exam: 2-day course with focus on force testing (including software use).
  • Technical Confidence: Must be able to validate gates against BS EN safety standards and produce detailed engineering reports.
