Automation Project Engineer
About the Role
We are hiring for our client, a leading manufacturing organisation, seeking to appoint an Automation Project Engineer to join their Engineering Projects team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering automation, capital investment, process improvement, and site upgrade projects within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will support projects from concept through to commissioning and handover, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and in compliance with GMP, regulatory, and safety standards. This position provides exposure to a wide variety of automation and engineering projects while collaborating with experienced engineering, production, quality, and maintenance teams.

Responsibilities
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the planning, design, execution, and close-out of automation and engineering projects
- Assisting with project scheduling, resource planning, cost tracking, and risk management
- Preparing engineering documentation, drawings, specifications, and reports
- Collaborating with Production, QA, Maintenance, and external contractors
- Supporting commissioning, qualification, validation, and handover activities
- Reviewing technical designs and installation plans to ensure compliance with GMP and safety requirements
- Troubleshooting automation and technical issues during project delivery and commissioning
- Maintaining accurate and audit-ready project records and documentation
- Participating in project meetings and providing technical input and progress updates
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and post-project reviews
- Providing technical support across automation systems and engineering operations

Requirements
Essential
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent experience) in Electrical, Automation, Mechanical, Chemical, or a related engineering discipline
- Experience supporting automation, engineering, or capital projects within a regulated manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of GMP and regulatory requirements
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Competent with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation systems

Desirable (Optional)
- Experience in commissioning, qualification, or validation activities
- Knowledge of project management methodologies
- Previous experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, or highly regulated manufacturing
- Exposure to automation, controls, PLC, or process systems
