Automation Tester

Test Automation Engineer

BAE Systems Digital Intelligence

Location

BAE Systems Digital Intelligence (Leeds office, hybrid – 1–2 days on-site, travel required) Grade: GG09 – GG10 Referral Bonus: £5,000

Our team of 4,500 digital, cyber and intelligence experts works across 10 countries to help governments, nations, armed forces, and businesses unlock digital advantage through data intelligence.


About the Role

Location: Leeds, hybrid (with mandatory site visits) Grade: GG09 – GG10

You will contribute to cyber defence and key infrastructure protection for government clients by securing the connected world—a mission where every individual plays a critical role.


Responsibilities

  • Design and Build:

    • Develop reusable, high-quality automated test solutions to support continuous product evolution
    • Shape clean, testable code in collaboration with developers
  • Integrate & Optimise:

    • Work with platform engineers to integrate testing into modern Continuous Delivery pipelines
    • Advocate quality at scale through unit and integration testing coverage

  • Analyse & Innovate:

    • Interpret requirements to create meaningful, high-impact test cases (functional, performance, security)
    • Investigate and resolve testing challenges to deliver quality outcomes
    • Use exploratory testing to uncover deeper insights
  • Collaborate & Lead:

    • Share knowledge through test artefact reviews and peer support
    • Communicate test methodologies clearly to improve cross-team understanding

Requirements

Mandatory Skills & Experience

  • Agile methodology experience in a dynamic environment
  • Hands-on experience with test automation tools, such as:
    • Selenium
    • Cucumber
  • Familiarity with API testing, including tools like REST Assured
  • Experience testing user interfaces and large datasets
  • Strong working knowledge of Java and SQL
