Vehicle Parts Management and Customer Service Apprentice

This apprenticeship provides a unique opportunity to learn about vehicle parts management and customer service within the automotive industry. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about automobiles, with a keen interest in parts identification, inventory management, and providing exceptional customer support.

What You'll Do at Work

  • Learn to identify and locate automotive parts using electronic catalogues, manuals, and computer systems
  • Assist customers in-person, over the phone, and via email to fulfil their parts requirements and enquiries
  • Collaborate with service technicians and mechanics to ensure accurate parts ordering and timely delivery
  • Receive, inspect, and organise incoming parts shipments, ensuring accuracy and quality control
  • Maintain inventory levels by monitoring stock levels, conducting regular audits, and placing replenishment orders as needed
  • Utilise point-of-sale systems to process transactions, generate invoices, and manage customer accounts
  • Provide product recommendations, technical advice, and pricing information to customers as needed
  • Handle customer complaints and concerns professionally, striving to achieve satisfactory resolutions
  • Uphold company policies and procedures regarding parts sales, returns, and exchanges
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance product knowledge, customer service skills, and industry awareness

What You'll Learn

Course Contents

  • Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
  • Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
  • Receive products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Store and pick products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Dispatch products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • Support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.
  • Conducts handover activities.

  • The programme typically lasts 12–14 months, depending on the career path chosen, and you'll achieve a nationally recognised qualification
  • All of our apprentices are employed through the dealer network and attend week-long block training at our state-of-the-art training centre in Coventry
  • Block training is complemented by a combination of regular coaching visits from one of our experienced coaches, as well as virtual classroom sessions and E-Learning modules
  • Please ensure you have copies of your GCSE, Scottish National, and Functional Skills certificates, as we may request to see them during the application process

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade 4)
    • Maths (grade 4)
