Job Description
A Workshop Foreman at UPS (often referred to as a Mech 3/Foreman in the automotive facility) is a key leadership role responsible for the daily operation of the automotive workshop, ensuring the maintenance and repair of the package delivery fleet. They lead a team of technicians, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with all legislative, maintenance, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead and motivate a team of technicians, prioritizing work orders, and fostering a collaborative, safe work environment.
- Fleet Maintenance: Oversee the repair and maintenance of a large fleet of package vehicles, ensuring they are safe, reliable, and compliant with all regulations.
- Workshop Operations: Manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, inventory, and stock control, while following established maintenance methods.
- Quality Control: Perform and inspect repairs to ensure high-quality standards are met.
- Compliance: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, and ensure all work adheres to safety and legal requirements.
- Training & Development: Mentor and train junior technicians and participate in ongoing company training, including for electric vehicles.

Required Qualifications & Skills
- Technical Experience: A City and Guilds qualification in vehicle mechanics (or equivalent) and experience with commercial vehicles, particularly LGVs (Large Goods Vehicles).
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience in a supervisory or foreman role.
- Licensing: A full UK driving license held for at least 2 years is required; an LGV Class 1 license is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and DVSA standards.
- Computer Skills: Basic literacy skills for maintaining online records and using diagnostic equipment.
- Attributes: A flexible, friendly, and energetic attitude, with the ability to work under pressure.
