Salon Assistant - Apprenticeship Programme

We are looking for friendly, energetic, and customer-focused Salon Assistants to support our stylists and colourists as part of our professional salon team.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience & Service

  • Deliver consistently high standards of customer service
  • Meet and greet guests in a warm, professional manner
  • Offer beverages and ensure guests feel comfortable throughout their visit
  • Provide Aveda Sensory Experiences during appointments
  • Always maintain guest confidentiality and professional conduct
  • Confidently talk guests through services and answer questions

  • Prepare for the day by reviewing service provider bookings
  • Shampoo and condition guests’ hair under the direction of stylists and colourists
  • Rinse colour and assist colourists at the basin
  • Support assistant blow-dry finishing services following Aveda guidelines
  • Observe and assist stylists to develop on-the-job knowledge
  • Stay up to date with seasonal trends and new techniques

Salon Standards

  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of styling stations, backwash areas, and colour bar
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and work areas meet Aveda hygiene and visual standards
  • Follow all Aveda policies, procedures, and health & safety guidelines

Retail & Product Knowledge

  • Develop strong knowledge of Aveda products
  • Demonstrate and recommend products during backwash and blow-dry services

Teamwork

  • Build strong working relationships with stylists, assistants, reception, retail advisors, and management
  • Attend salon meetings, training sessions, and Aveda education events as required

Flexibility

  • Be available to work shifts, including late nights and weekends, in line with business needs

Training & Development

You will take part in our 18-month Salon Assistant Apprentice Training Programme, designed to build both your technical ability and professional confidence.

This programme includes:

  • Attending all training days and education sessions
  • Completing structured learning modules within set timeframes
  • Working closely with salon educators to receive regular feedback
  • Supporting stylists and colourists to build practical, hands-on experience
  • Completing online and in-salon education to grow technical and creative knowledge

NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing

As part of the 18-month development journey, you will work towards achieving your NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing through a structured programme of on-the-job and off-the-job training.

This includes:

  • Developing core practical hairdressing skills on models
  • Completing theory assessments
  • Building competence in essential hairdressing services in line with industry and salon standards
  • Following health & safety requirements and maintaining professional conduct
  • Working under supervision to meet assessment criteria

This qualification forms the foundation for progression within the hairdressing profession and future growth within our salon team.
