Aviation Security Manager - Night Shift

Location: PFW International Hub, Middlemarch Business Park, Coventry, CV3 4PF
Contract type: Permanent, Full-time (41 hours per week)
Salary: £36,004 per annum, plus £906 monthly night shift allowance. 10% annual bonus potential.
About the Role
The Aviation Security Manager will lead the secure, compliant, and high-volume screening of international mail and parcels within PFW automated processing centres. The role ensures adherence to:
- DfT aviation security regulations
- Border Force requirements
- Royal Mail operational standards
Work is delivered in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a night shift team to ensure safe operations, high throughput, and consistent service delivery during peak and non-peak periods
- Direct automated security screening for international parcels, integrating with sortation systems
- Manage high-volume traffic aligned with dispatch schedules and network timelines
- Optimise resources (people, equipment, workflows) to meet productivity and throughput targets
- Uphold strict compliance with DfT Regulated Agent standards and ensure cross-border cargo compliance with the UK National Aviation Security Programme (NASP)
- Oversee screening processes (X-ray, ETD, manual checks) for flagged items
- Lead audits, compliance checks, CCTV reviews, and incident investigations
- Maintain screening standards to detect prohibited and high-risk items
- Manage and develop Team Leaders and Screening Officers, including AvSec training delivery
- Build effective working relationships within a CWU unionised environment
- Drive performance through KPIs, feedback, and continuous improvement activities

Hours: Monday–Friday, 20:00–04:00 (flexible as required).
About You
You must demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of DfT aviation security and screening requirements
- Familiarity with international mail flows, customs processes, and Royal Mail network operations (desirable)
- Understanding of HR legislation and processes
- Previous management experience in logistics, aviation, or automated parcel operations
- Proven leadership in a large, unionised workforce
- Ability to analyse data and deliver improvements in a technology-enabled setting
- Relevant certifications in screening/X-ray/aviation security (preferred)
Security clearance requirement: Successful candidates must pass a Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC) or obtain security clearance (approval may take up to 6 weeks).
