Avionics Systems Engineer
RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire
£47,250 - £52,500 + Excellent Benefits
SC Clearance Eligibility Required
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Systems Engineer to join an embedded engineering team at RAF Coningsby, supporting the UK's Typhoon programme.
Working alongside MOD stakeholders, you will play a key role in the assessment, evaluation, and assurance of advanced defence capabilities, contributing directly to the performance and effectiveness of mission-critical systems.
This role can be tailored to suit the experience of the successful candidate. Applications are welcomed from Associate Engineers with around three years' experience through to more experienced Senior Engineers looking to provide technical leadership and make an immediate impact.
The Opportunity
As part of an embedded team within 41 Test and Evaluation Squadron, you will apply systems engineering principles throughout the engineering lifecycle, supporting the development, testing, and evaluation of complex defence capabilities.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of developmental and operational test activities, helping to assess system performance and operational effectiveness.
- Support the development and maintenance of software tools used to analyse test data and inform engineering decisions.
- This is a fast-paced environment where your work can have an immediate and visible impact. During flight trials, the analysis and recommendations you provide can directly influence subsequent testing activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Apply systems engineering principles across the full engineering lifecycle
- Support the assessment of mission systems, avionics capabilities, airworthiness, and safety considerations
- Lead or support systems validation and flight test evaluation activities
- Define and support test plans and developmental/operational analysis programmes
- Develop and maintain software scripts and analytical tools
- Present technical findings and recommendations to stakeholders
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and MOD personnel
- Support and mentor junior engineers within the team
Essential Experience
- Experience delivering technical analysis and solving complex engineering problems
- Experience applying systems engineering principles to complex projects
- Basic proficiency in software scripting or development using Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar tools
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Experience producing and communicating technical outputs to stakeholders

Desirable Experience
- Experience within aerospace, defence, rail, nuclear, automotive, maritime, space, or other regulated industries
- Exposure to test and evaluation, verification and validation (V&V), or operational analysis activities
- Experience supporting safety-critical systems or highly regulated environments
Qualifications
- STEM degree or equivalent industry experience
- Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC)
- Ability to work full-time on site at RAF Coningsby
