Role Overview
As Assistant Vice President, Software Engineering, you will:
- Lead and scale our Software Engineering function by applying technical expertise and strategic direction
- Collaborate closely with business units to define product roadmaps, oversee large-scale software development initiatives, and deliver scalable, innovative solutions
- Shape a modern technology culture through the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices and agentic development, enhancing code generation, testing, reviews, and cross-team workflows
- Champion ** Responsible AI**, ensuring all AI and agentic solutions comply with governance principles for model risk, data ethics, transparency, and oversight, fostering responsible adoption without compromising pace
- Align engineering work with broader business and technology goals to drive efficiency and accountability
- Develop and mentor high performance engineering teams, proactively addressing skill gaps and setting enterprise-wide technical standards
- Stay ahead of industry trends in cloud computing, microservices, and AI, while fostering resilience, fault tolerance, and proactive risk mitigation in software architecture
Location & Working Terms
We currently offer flexible hybrid work, enabling full-time employees across Europe to work three days in office, two days from home (or adjusted proportionally for part-time arrangements). Policy terms remain subject to potential review by the company.

- Act as technical leader and mentor to Software Engineers, reinforcing Travelers’ leadership behaviors and fostering an inclusive culture
- Nurture collaborative and performance-driven engineering teams
- Proactively identify development opportunities and provide development resources

Strategic Engineering & Solution Design
- Partner with business stakeholders to craft strategic engineering plans, roadmaps, and oversight
- Champion AI-assisted development workflows, including LLM-based engineering tools, to optimize delivery scale and quality
- Lead technical governance for agentic solutions (using LLM-based rationalized intelligent agents) for user-product integration, aligning with technical architects
Responsible AI & Risk Alignment
- Ensure compliance and best practices across AI-governance models, addressing model risk, data privacy, oversight, and user-centric usage
- Collaborate with architecture and risk teams to maintain alignment with ethical and operational safeguards for AI initiatives
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work with engineering and business leaders to invest in relevant technologies and solutions
- Align engineering initiatives with business needs to achieve tangible outcomes
- Share best practices, leveraging industry trends for improving engineering quality through standardization
Technical Innovation & Process Optimization
- Continuously assess software development methodologies, recommend improvements, and drive high-quality, agile delivery processes
- Establish technical roadmaps, KPIs, and success metrics to ensure transparency and engagement
Essential Professional Experience
- 10+ years minimum in relevant roles, with proven insurance/financial services expertise
- Demonstrated hands-on experience deploying and maintaining cloud-based solutions built on microservices architectures
- Forthright AI/ML engineering knowledge, driving agentic development while maintaining risk-aware applications
- Proven record of interpretating complex software solutions for non-technical stakeholders; translating business requirements into viable engineering design directions
- Strong background in analyzing system solutions, ** للفaltime system resilience**, and forward-looking road mapping
- Scalable team leadership experience, spanning architecture policy, career development, and talent retention

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering (including Software/IT), or comparable disciplines, OR
- Exceedingly equivalent relevant professional development through experience
Experience
- At least 7 years in programming/development roles, including two years in technical leadership
- Five years of hands-on technical leadership in large-scale systems/test-tracked deployments
