AWS Cloud Engineer
Salary: Up to £65,000+ benefits Location: Hybrid working (home based with UK travel, approx once a month) Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week Job Status: Permanent

As an AWS Cloud Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing, maintaining, and evolving our cloud infrastructure. This hands-on position blends technical expertise with collaboration, ensuring our serverless, IaC-driven environment operates efficiently, securely, and at scale.
The Main Objective
You’ll scale, secure and optimise AWS-based infrastructure to support:
- Our Internal Developer Platform
- Cloud engineering initiatives
- Serverless, automation-first deployments

Core Responsibilities
Architecture & Innovation
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-efficient AWS architecture for internal developer platforms and broader projects.
- Drive adoption and improvements in serverless solutions, AWS-native services, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
- Partner in architecture reviews, design sessions, and initiative prioritisation to enhance system reliability and developer experience.
Cloud Infrastructure
- Code and manage repetitive workloads using AWS CDK and Terraform (TypeScript preferred) to automate deployments.
- Operate and optimise key AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, VPC, and IAM with attention to security, redundancy, and cost.
- Continuously invest in CI/CD pipelines, primarily via GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.

Security & Observability
- Secure IAM roles, multi-account environments, and network infrastructure (VPCs, routing, private endpoints).
- Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting and observability leveraging Datadog, Dynatrace, and native AWS tools (CloudWatch, PagerDuty).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to improve security policies backup & disaster recovery plans.
Developer Platform Excellence
- Contribute to a self-service developer platform, enabling teams to deploy serverless components (e.g., Lambda, DynamoDB) securely and efficiently.
- Integrate with Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) for streamlined and secure identity management.
Team & Process Leadership
- Foster collaboration across engineering, product, and business teams to drive automation, efficiency gains, and professional development.
- Share insights and lead knowledge distribution through documentation, workshops, and mentorship.
Key Requirements
Technical Expertise
- Proven track record of delivering robust AWS solutions using AWS CDK, Terraform, and IaC principles.
- Strong base in:
- AWS security (e.g., IAM, least privilege access), networking (VPC, IP routing), and multi-account architectures.
- Serverless technologies (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB).
- CI/CD workflows (GitHub/Git + Azure DevOps) and DevOps methodologies (Infrastructure-as-Code, version control).
- Observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, PagerDuty, CloudWatch, Prometheus).
- Familiarity with TypeScript/JavaScript highly advantageous.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science or relevant field, or equivalent experience.

- Commitment to best practices in scalability, security, and cost management.
- Drive to learn Continuously review and refine your skillset with the latest AWS features and optimisations.
