About The Role

We are collaborating with Leidos to identify an experienced and proactive AWS DevOps Engineer to join their LCST Programme team. This role requires a hands-on professional who excels in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure cloud infrastructure within an Agile environment. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to automate deployment processes, optimize cloud resources, and ensure system reliability and security. You will be integral to supporting the full lifecycle of cloud-based solutions, from infrastructure provisioning to continuous integration and delivery, while adhering to best practices and compliance standards.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise, industry certifications, and practical experience, including:

  • Proven experience in managing source code repositories using GIT, including pull requests, branching strategies such as Trunk-based and GitFlow workflows.
  • Deep understanding of AWS cloud services, including EC2, ECR, ECS, EKS, VPC, RDS, Load Balancers, Lambda, IAM, Route 53, and related components.
  • Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
  • Hands-on experience in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and PowerShell for automation tasks.
  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools, along with configuration management using Ansible or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of secrets management and access control mechanisms, including Vault and IAM policies.
  • Understanding of AWS security best practices, including encryption, patch management, monitoring, and compliance.
  • Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Ability to implement monitoring and logging solutions such as CloudWatch for system reliability and proactive incident management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and troubleshooting capabilities in complex environments.
  • Working knowledge of load balancing, traffic management, and routing, including tools like NGINX and AWS-native solutions.
  • Experience with release and change management processes, deployment governance, and version control strategies.
  • Familiarity with Java application environments and deployment considerations is advantageous.
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement of delivery pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Experience designing event-driven architectures using SNS, Lambda, and external notification systems.
  • Proficiency with collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket to support Agile workflows.
  • Understanding of identity and access management, including Active Directory, ADFS, SSO, and cloud authentication integrations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and manage scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure using AWS services and IaC tools.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes across multiple environments.
  • Manage source code repositories, review pull requests, and enforce branching strategies to facilitate collaborative development.
  • Automate operational workflows through scripting and develop tools to enhance system efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Configure and manage containerized environments using Docker, Kubernetes, or equivalent orchestration platforms.
  • Ensure security best practices are followed, including access controls, secrets management, and compliance adherence.
  • Monitor system health and performance using CloudWatch and other monitoring tools, responding proactively to incidents.
  • Develop and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, contributing technical insights and solutions.
  • Collaborate with software developers, system engineers, and security teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Optimize traffic management and load balancing strategies to improve application performance and reliability.
  • Support structured release and change management processes, including deployment governance and rollback strategies.
  • Stay updated with emerging cloud technologies and industry best practices, recommending improvements to existing infrastructure and processes.
