Contract AWS Platform Engineer - Re-platforming Programme (Outside IR35)

Role: AWS Platform Engineer

Day Rate: Up to £450

Duration: Initial 3 months (strong likelihood of extension)

IR35: Outside IR35

Location: Fully remote (UK-based)

We are working with a growing technology consultancy that is supporting one of their clients, a large-scale organisation that delivers services into the public sector (though not itself a public sector body) on a significant platform engineering programme.

As part of this engagement, they are looking to bring in a strong AWS platform engineer to help deliver a large-scale replatforming initiative across a complex and historically fragmented estate.

This is a hands-on role focused on building, standardising, and scaling a modern AWS platform, while helping to move away from years of manual configuration and bespoke implementations. This is an initial three-month contract with a high likelihood of extension, and the client is looking to move quickly. Interviews are available next week, with an immediate start required.

The Role

You will be joining an environment that currently supports a large customer base across a mix of hosting approaches, including AWS EC2, ECS, RDS, and S3, alongside some on-premises and bespoke customer setups.

The current platform has evolved organically and includes:

  • Multiple approaches to hosting the same application suite
  • Limited Infrastructure as Code adoption
  • A high degree of manual configuration and maintenance
  • Bespoke, customer-specific implementations that create complexity and slow down progress

A new hosting platform has been introduced using pre-built images and Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code, which has proven successful at MVP stage. The focus now is to expand, mature, and scale this platform across the wider estate, supporting backend services built in C#.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience with C# is highly desirable but not essential — engineers with strong experience in comparable languages who can cross-train into C# are equally welcome
  • Experience with database platform engineering, including services such as SSRS and SSIS
  • Experience migrating and consolidating multi-account or multi-environment architectures
  • Experience introducing automation across networking, security, or edge services such as Cloudflare

What Success Looks Like

  • Increased use of Infrastructure as Code across all layers of the platform
  • Successful onboarding and migration of customers onto the new hosting model
  • Improved reliability, scalability, and ease of deployment across the estate

Why This Opportunity

  • Shape and scale a modern AWS platform from MVP to full adoption
  • Work within a consultancy environment delivering into a large-scale organisation supporting public sector services
