AWS Platform Engineer

About the Role
Are you passionate about working with cutting-edge technology and committed to finding innovative solutions to complex challenges within a team dedicated to enhancing UK security? Join BAE Systems Digital Intelligence as an experienced AWS Developer in this unique cloud platform engineering role.
As a key member of a Cloud Platform Team, you will collaborate with National Security Customers to build infrastructure platforms on AWS that support mission-critical applications. You will operate within empowered, autonomous teams, partnering closely with Engineering teams and end-users to:
- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain infrastructure platforms.
- Identify creative, efficient solutions for diverse challenges.
- Operate across multiple client organisations, shaping exciting cloud adoption journeys for customers.
- Own projects at a marked responsibility level while benefiting from extensive engineering community support.
The team embraces DevOps practices and supports a vibrant mix of capabilities for customers. Ideal candidates will thrive in the full delivery lifecycle, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and enthusiasm for learning. You’ll play a role in deciding technologies and will be supported via resources such as Cloud Academy and Pluralsight.

Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with engineering and product teams to define, build, and maintain scalable AWS-based infrastructure platforms for mission-critical applications.
- Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform) to streamline deployments and reduce manual errors.
- Implement and maintain robust monitoring, logging, and observability solutions to ensure system reliability.
- Assist in driving FinOps best practices to optimize cloud spending on behalf of both teams and customers.
- Contribute to secure DevOps pipelines, leveraging CI/CD platforms to enhance delivery efficiency.
- Continually evaluate new technologies, contributing ideas and providing subject-matter expertise in AWS environments.
- Participate and grow within autonomous and high-performing Agile teams, fostering an environment of high ownership and responsibility.
- Shadow and collaborate across multiple platforms and customers, broadening both skillset and impact.

Requirements
Minimum
-
Extensive experience in AWS services, particularly coving areas like:
- EC2, ECS, EKS, S3, Lambda, RDS, KMS, ELB, SNS, SQS (deep hands-on understanding).
- IAM policy management (fine-grained access controls).
- Operational aspects such as monitoring, troubleshooting, and scalability techniques.

Confirmed technical proficiency with:
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (pulled up on Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation).
- Programming/scripting (Python, Shell, Bash) for validation and automation tasks.
- Version control systems like Git or other equivalents, with best practices adoption.

Linux administration and networking knowledge, including:
- Routing, active-active/failover configurations.
- Firewalls (opening, securing, monitoring).

Experience in secure and compliant cloud environments.
Preferred Skills (Though Full Support Given)

AWS Associate Level Certifications (e.g., Solution Architect, Developer, or DevOps).

Mastery in:
- Lambda compatible languages (Python, Java, Go, Node.js).
- Containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, ECS).

Experience with CI/CD tools, like Jenkins, Bamboo, Bitbucket Pipelines for automating deployments and rollbacks.

Prior work in security standards and compliance practices.
