Axia Safety and Compliance Stream Manager

The Axia Safety and Compliance Stream Manager will lead the Engineering and Maintenance teams through Project Axia—a key transformation programme, including the move from SAP to AMOS. The role will:
- Proactively manage risk to an acceptable level
- Define and deliver mission-aligned objectives
- Engage with key internal and external stakeholders to provide safety and compliance assurance from project conception to execution
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
- Inspire a global culture of "Safety First" and champion the engineering vision
- Lead the end-to-end Safety Management System (SMS), risk management, and compliance processes across Axia
- Develop and deliver proactive mitigation strategies to ensure Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) compliance throughout the Axia programme and transition into business-as-usual (BAU) operations
- Define and promote Safety and Compliance priorities aligned with BA’s mission objectives
- Hold internal stakeholders accountable for meeting regulatory and business objectives through Axia, ensuring success in Safety & Compliance metrics
- Oversee Safety and Compliance partnerships, both internally and externally, for the Axia project
- Drive and execute compliance and safety audit programmes for Axia
- Lead the commercial relationship with regulatory bodies regarding Axia
- Represent Axia on relevant safety action groups
- Lead data analysis, investigations, and recommendations—presenting operational improvements across Safety & Compliance for E&M
- Serve as the organisation’s point of reference for Safety & Compliance management

What You’ll Bring to British Airways
Essential & Desired Qualities
- Proven leadership skills
- Strong verbal and written communication, with experience managing relationships at senior levels (e.g., with the CAA, FAA, EASA, or HSE)
- Autonomy, initiative, and critical thinking—ability to assertively make informed decisions
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams
- Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies
- Strategic mindset, with experience handling complexity and ambiguity, resolving tensions, and balancing priorities
- Negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- In-depth knowledge of aviation regulations—essential:
- Part 145 (Maintenance Organisation Approval)
- Part M (Maintenance)
- Part IS (Aircraft Safety Management)
- Part 21 (Production and Modification)
- Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) regulatory experience
- Subject-Matter Expert (SME) level knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Human Factors
- Keen awareness of regulatory changes and adaptability
- Advanced data analytics skills—collect, analyse, and integrate data-driven insights
- Innovative problem-solving, particularly in operationally critical areas

Experience Requirements
- Essential: Subject-matter expertise in Part 145 & Part M
- Essential: Minimum 5 years in Safety Assurance within a Safety Management System or Compliance Monitoring
- Essential: Experience in a senior leadership role for an approved Maintenance Organisation
- Essential: Risk analysis experience
