Daily Rate Contract

Initial 3 months, possible extension.

My client is the fastest growing technology company in Scotland, with plans to deploy and invest over £2 billion in the coming years. You would be joining at a relatively early stage of that trajectory. For the right person, this is a chance to build something from the ground up inside a business that is scaling fast.

Role Overview

They have been selected to provide a managed Compute & Storage service for a public sector customer, transitioning from the incumbent provider. As part of Service Readiness ahead of go-live, the Azure platform must be validated against the current Compute and Storage environment, document this into runbooks and transition to BAU support.

The Azure platform primarily supporting VM hosting, is in scope for assessment. The role focuses on validating the Azure platform is ready for handover into support and BAU operations, with all issues documented.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify Azure infrastructure for service. Review the existing Microsoft Azure infrastructure and services against our managed service standards, covering resource organisation, governance, tagging, cost visibility, policy, access control and resilience. Establish whether each is ready to be supported and record what is not.
  • Assess hybrid environments. Review the hybrid environments that integrate Azure with the on-premise data centre platforms, including the network, identity and storage touchpoints between the two, and confirm they are configured and documented to a supportable standard.
  • Verify ExpressRoute connectivity. Review the existing Azure ExpressRoute connectivity between the data centre estate and Azure (circuit configuration, peering, routing and resilience), confirm it is stable and understood, and document it for ongoing support.
  • Record any weaknesses for remediation.
  • Review identity, networking and security integration. Assess the integration of identity (Entra ID / Active Directory), networking (virtual networks, peering, gateways, DNS) and security (network security groups, firewalls, conditional access) between Azure and the on-premise environment, against what a managed service needs to support and operate them safely.
  • Diagnose platform and connectivity issues. Diagnose Azure platform, networking and connectivity issues found during take-on, working with the network and security teams where issues cross the boundary between Azure and the data centre. Document each issue with enough detail for it to be remediated separately; resolution of the issues is out of scope for this contract.
  • Maintain the remediation list. Build and maintain the list of items found during take-on that are not ready for service, with enough context, severity and detail for each that the separate remediation work can be scoped and actioned without re-investigation.
  • Produce service documentation and handover. Produce the runbooks, support documentation, escalation paths and known-issue records that take each service into supportable BAU, and lead the handover to the permanent operations team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Required Experience

  • Microsoft Azure architecture. Strong hands-on experience designing and operating Microsoft Azure infrastructure in production, beyond proof-of-concept or lab use.
  • Azure ExpressRoute. Demonstrable experience implementing and supporting Azure ExpressRoute, including the routing and peering detail, not just consuming a circuit someone else configured.
  • Azure networking, identity and core services. Good working understanding of Azure networking (virtual networks, peering, gateways, routing, DNS), identity (Entra ID, hybrid identity with on-premise Active Directory) and the core Azure services that platforms are built on.
  • Enterprise infrastructure background. A solid background in enterprise infrastructure across Wintel, Linux and VMware, so that the hybrid integration work is grounded in an understanding of what sits on the on-premise side.

Desirable Experience

  • Managed services or hosting environment. Experience operating an Azure platform within a managed services provider or hosting environment, where the platform is run on behalf of customers to defined service levels rather than for a single in-house IT function.
  • Data centre networking and firewalling. Familiarity with data centre networking and firewalling, with Fortinet preferred given the firewalling estate in use. Exposure to Cisco data centre networking (ACI, Nexus) is also useful given the wider platform.
  • Operational handover and service transition. A track record of taking existing services into BAU, including assessing readiness, writing runbooks, identifying gaps for remediation, and running structured handovers to operations teams.

Certifications

Relevant Microsoft Azure certification (for example Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Network Engineer Associate, or Azure Solutions Architect Expert) is welcome but practical experience carries more weight.

Please note that this is an initial 3 month contract with possible extension. Apply now for immediate interview / start.
