Azure Infrastructure Engineer

Azure Infrastructure Engineer – 12-Month Fixed Term Contract

(Hybrid role, Birmingham/Croydon/Belfast)

An ever-growing technology-focused business is seeking an experienced Azure Infrastructure Engineer to drive innovation, maintain critical systems, and enhance security whilst supporting our clients and users. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.


About the Role

This key engineering position will see you:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain solutions within Isio’s Azure tenants, including:
    • Monitoring & alerting systems for virtual machines, backups, and resource optimisation
    • Implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using ARM/Bicep templates and Azure DevOps YAML pipelines
  • Automate processes to improve efficiency, including:
    • Automation tooling (e.g., Tines, N8N, Power Automate, PowerShell)
    • Routine maintenance tasks and deployments
  • Deploy and manage cloud-native components such as:
    • Containers & App Service Plans
    • Azure functions & serverless architectures
  • Enhance monitoring & observability using DataDog (or similar) to track performance and availability across multiple environments
  • Support M365 stack maintenance including:
    • Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, Defender for Endpoint, and Admin Portal
  • Raise and maintain security posture:
    • Upholding best practices for security accreditation
    • Assisting in audit readiness for ISO/regulatory compliance
  • Leverage project-based work to:
    • Implement new solutions
    • Enhance existing infrastructure & workflows
  • Collaborate with the IT service desk as an escalation点 to analyse root causes and resolve complex issues
  • Ensure transparency & accountability through documentation in Confluence or equivalent tools

Responsibilities

  • Hybrid Cloud Architecture: Maintain, troubleshoot & optimise Azure deployments, including virtual networking, storage, and backups.
  • IaC & DevOps Enablement: Utilise ARM/Bicep + YAML pipelines to provision environments consistently.
  • Security & Compliance: Actively improve defence mechanisms (e.g., Conditional Access, Defender) and advocate for best practices.
  • Automation & Process Optimisation: Automate repetitive tasks with tooling like PowerShell, Power Automate and Azure Logic Apps.
  • Project Leadership: Lead small to medium-sized projects to expand and improve the IT infrastructure.
  • Skill Development: Mentor junior team members and guide capacity planning for evolving dependent services.

Requirements

Essential

  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Microsoft Azure services (e.g., Entra ID, App Services, Storage Blobs, SQL, Backups, Virtual Machines, Load Balancers, Front Door)
    • O365 stack (including Intune & Defender for Endpoint)
    • Application & Automation tools (e.g., Zapier, Tines, Power Automate, PowerShell)
  • Experience with:
    • Infrastructure as Code: ARM/Bicep/Bicep Azure SDK, YAML pipelines, Azure DevOps
    • Cloud-native/serverless architectures (e.g., Azure Functions, Containers, AKS)
    • System monitoring & troubleshooting (e.g., DataDog, Azure Monitor)
  • Technical communication & public speaking skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proven track record of self-directed troubleshooting.
  • Exceptional documentation skills (e.g., Confluence).
  • Familiarity with Change Control & IT change processes.

Desirable (Bonus Points)

  • Additional cloud expertise (e.g., AWS) or hybrid cloud architectures.
  • Experience with:
    • Windows Server administration (e.g., Active Directory, DNS, IIS updating tools like WSUS)
    • SharePoint Online & bindings
    • Email security sprawl (e.g., ProofPoint, ONDmarc, mail flow routing)
  • Certifications:
    • Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Certs (e.g., Azure Architect/Solutions Associate)
  • Hands-on networking:
    • LAN, WAN, SDWAN, Azure networking concepts & troubleshooting
  • Prior experience:
    • In regulated industries (e.g., telecoms, finance, utilities)
    • Using Jira for planning (if additional tasks need tracking)
