Job Overview
This Azure Security Engineer opportunity is ideal for an experienced cloud security professional with advanced expertise across Microsoft’s security stack. The Azure Security Engineer will take ownership of designing, implementing and optimising enterprise grade security controls across Azure environments, strengthening security posture, visibility and compliance across complex cloud estates.
Working from Cheltenham with remote flexibility, this Azure Security Engineer will collaborate with architects, DevOps teams and security operations specialists to embed secure by design principles across the full technology lifecycle. The Azure Security Engineer will also provide technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers and influencing stakeholders across the business.

Clearance: SC (UK Nationals Only)
Active Security Check clearance is mandatory for this Azure Security Engineer role. Applications are only open to UK Nationals who are eligible to hold and maintain SC clearance.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Designing, implementing and optimising security controls across Azure resources and services
- Leading deployment and configuration of Microsoft Defender including Defender for Cloud, Endpoint, Identity, O365 and Cloud Apps
- Administering and enhancing Microsoft Sentinel including workbook development, analytics rules, automation workflows and threat hunting
- Managing data classification, labelling and lifecycle controls using Microsoft Purview and Information Protection
- Integrating security tooling into CI and CD pipelines to support secure development practices
- Leading incident investigations, triage and forensic analysis using Sentinel and Defender signals
- Developing playbooks, runbooks and automated response workflows
- Conducting cloud security assessments, gap analyses and remediation activities
- Ensuring Azure environments align with ISO 27001, NIST and GDPR standards
- Acting as subject matter expert for Azure security technologies and mentoring junior engineers
Here are the skills you'll need:
- Proven experience as an Azure Security Engineer within enterprise scale environments
- Deep technical expertise across Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Purview and Information Protection
- Strong knowledge of cloud security architecture, threat detection and incident response
- Experience aligning Azure security controls with ISO 27001, NIST and GDPR frameworks
- Ability to provide technical leadership and influence cross functional teams
- Active SC clearance and UK nationality
