About the Role
Phoenix enables digital transformation across the UK public sector, empowering organisations to innovate with cloud and hybrid infrastructures, data, AI, security and collaboration technologies.
We are now hiring an Azure Consultant to join our Consultancy team within IT Services. This role will focus on delivering Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud solutions across a broad range of customer engagements, helping organisations modernise their environments and maximise the value of their cloud investments.
Working alongside Senior Consultants and Project Managers, you will design, implement and support Azure solutions, providing technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle. The role combines hands-on delivery with customer engagement, ensuring solutions are delivered to a high standard and aligned with customer requirements.
What will you be doing?
- Deliver Azure infrastructure solutions in line with agreed scopes of work and project plans.
- Deploy and configure Azure services using Microsoft best practices.
- Support Azure migration projects from on-premises and other cloud platforms.
- Validate delivered solutions through testing and support successful customer handovers.
- Deploy and administer Azure networking, compute and storage services.
- Configure Azure Firewall, Bastion, VPNs, ExpressRoute and Network Security Groups.
- Implement Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery solutions.
- Configure Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
- Apply governance controls including Azure Policy, Management Groups and tagging standards.
- Support security improvements and Zero Trust initiatives.
- Troubleshoot Azure networking and hybrid connectivity issues.
- Develop automation using PowerShell and support Infrastructure as Code deployments using Terraform or similar technologies.
- Participate in customer workshops, discovery sessions and technical meetings.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including designs, implementation guides and operational runbooks.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, technical development and continuous improvement across the team.

What are we looking for?
- Experience delivering Azure infrastructure and cloud-focused projects.
- Good understanding of Azure networking, including VPN, ExpressRoute and Virtual Networks.
- Knowledge of Azure security services, including Defender, Entra ID, RBAC and PIM.
- Experience working with Azure compute, storage and platform services.
- Awareness of Infrastructure as Code methodologies using Terraform, Bicep or similar tools.
- Experience using PowerShell and automation technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across Azure and hybrid environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a wider consultancy team.
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience delivering customer-facing Azure consultancy or implementation projects.
- AZ-104 (Azure Administrator Associate) desirable.
- SC-300 (Identity and Access Administrator) desirable.
- AZ-500 (Azure Security Engineer) desirable.
- Experience working towards AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect Expert) advantageous.
- Terraform Associate certification desirable.

Where is the role based?
Primary location is our HQ in Pocklington (YO42).
What about hybrid/remote working?
Hybrid and remote working are supported, with flexibility depending on customer and project requirements.
How many interviews?
Following a screen with the Recruitment Team, you can expect a two-stage interview process — one online and one in-person.
Important BPSS Check
As part of our recruitment process and due to the nature of the work we do, all employees are required to undertake a BPSS check. While some employees may require further security clearance, the BPSS check is mandatory and all offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion.
