About The Role
We are seeking a strategic, dynamic leader for the newly created role of Director of Communications, Dow Jones Energy. This is a pivotal position during a period of significant growth and investment for our Energy business.
Dow Jones Energy is undergoing a multi-year transformation to grow market share across price reporting, news, research, and events in the energy and environmental commodities space. As a key member of the global communications team, you will be responsible for building the communications infrastructure, strategy, and narrative for this critical part of the Dow Jones portfolio from the ground up.
As Director, you will serve as the dedicated communications partner for Energy leadership and subject matter experts, while working closely with our London-based B2B Communications Director.
While this is an individual contributor role, you will act as a "player-coach," orchestrating resources from across our global communications team to execute high-impact campaigns. Your first year will focus on establishing the operational playbook, supporting the transformation of the business which will become a leader in the energy conversation globally.
You bring strong B2B experience, excellent news judgment, and the ability to translate complex topics and datasets into clear, compelling narratives for external and internal audiences.
You will work in our London Bridge office 3 days each week.
You Will
- Architect and launch a comprehensive global communications strategy for Dow Jones Energy, aligning messaging across diverse sectors including oil, chemicals, sustainability, renewables, and electric vehicles (EVs).
- Identify, train, and position key subject matter experts and business leaders as industry-leading voices for market-moving insights. Manage their profiles at major industry events and across digital platforms.
- Partner with product, sales, and editorial teams–as well as other parts of Dow Jones–to translate complex data sets and benchmarks into compelling stories that resonate with trade, business, financial, and broadcast media.
- Act as the primary bridge between the Energy business unit and the broader Dow Jones global communications team, leveraging shared resources to ensure consistent execution of the Energy roadmap.
- Build and maintain high-level relationships with key energy and commodities journalists and broadcast producers to secure consistent, high-quality coverage of our data and experts.
- Support high-profile social media campaigns, advising on positioning and posting as needed.
- Establish internal communication channels to ensure the Energy team's successes and strategic priorities are well-understood by the global team, as well as the wider Dow Jones organization.
- Support a regular cadence of internal communications and engagement activities that will drive a culture of collaboration, learning, and growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
