B5 Occupational Therapist

Occupational Therapist (B5) – Brent Community Mental Health Rehab Function

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a B5 Occupational Therapist to join our Brent Community Mental Health Rehab Function within our community service. This role offers meaningful development tailored to your specific needs and interests, helping you grow within a supportive and motivated team. Backed by an experienced multidisciplinary team (MDT), our organisation prioritises internal growth—92% of our senior colleagues were promoted in-house.

The team serves Brent, London Borough of Culture 2020 and Council of the Year 2020, working with a diverse and vibrant community.

Working Hours: Weekdays, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert occupational therapy services within a community mental health context, delivering individual and group-based interventions, assessments, and evaluations.
  • Apply Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and evidence-based assessment tools to establish baseline functioning and inform ongoing care.
  • Work within recovery principles and personalised treatment planning to enhance service users’ quality of life, focusing on functional outcomes and community integration.
  • Collaborate with senior OTs and an established support network of OTs across the borough and trust.
  • Engage in training, reflective practice, trauma-informed case formulation, and skill-sharing projects to foster professional growth.

Service Aims

This service focuses on two core objectives:

  1. Continuation of rehabilitation for individuals transitioning from inpatient care, supporting them in developing independent living skills and community integration.
  2. Preventing inpatient referral by providing community-based mental health rehabilitation in the least restrictive setting possible.

Target Population

This role serves individuals requiring mental health rehabilitation who are therapeutically stable enough for community-based support.


Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent Diploma) in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration and eligibility to practice in the UK

Desirable Qualifications

  • Post-registration training or qualifications
  • Membership or involvement in occupational therapy special interest groups

Essential Experience

  • Experience as a registered Allied Health Professional (AHP) in the UK or similar contexts
  • Experience in caseload management, working with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), coordinating with assistant staff, and supervising students -Experience in teaching junior professionals and volunteering or working in health/social care

Desirable Experience

  • Community mental health or relevant specialism experience
  • Audit and research participation

Key Skills, Knowledge & Abilities (Essential)

  • Fluent written and verbal communication
  • Proficiency in IT (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, databases)
  • Strong problem-solving, flexibility, leadership, and autonomy
  • Ability to plan, prioritise workload, and work independently
  • Understanding of clinical supervision and disability-related challenges
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NHS systems, occupational therapy roles, and MDT dynamics
  • Health & Safety awareness, clinical development orientation, and professional growth commitment
