Occupational Therapist (Band 5) – Community Mental Health Hub
Job Overview
Are you a passionate and motivated Occupational Therapist looking to develop your career in mental health? We are seeking a [Band 5 Occupational Therapist] to join our dynamic Community Mental Health Hub team.
This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality, recovery-focused occupational therapy interventions to adults experiencing mental health difficulties within a supportive multidisciplinary team. You will manage a defined caseload, providing evidence-based assessment, intervention, and evaluation through both individual and group work.
We are looking for an enthusiastic team player with strong communication skills, a commitment to evidence-based practice, and a genuine interest in mental health occupational therapy. You will be supported by experienced senior OTs (Band 6 and Band 7) and encouraged to contribute to teaching, supervision, and quality improvement activities.
There is a trust-wide Band 5 OT network for support and development.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with service users to promote independence, social inclusion, and wellbeing, supporting them to achieve meaningful goals and improve their quality of life.
- Utilise recognised assessment tools, apply clinical reasoning, and contribute to care planning in line with recovery principles.
- Support the delivery of community groups, contribute to service development initiatives, and work closely with partner agencies.
- Receive regular supervision and access structured professional development opportunities, including:
- OT clinical networks
- An OT-to-OT training program
- Opportunities to build skills and progress within the Trust.

Detailed Job Description & Core Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Provide a multidisciplinary team (MDT) with occupational therapy services, including:
- Individual and group work
- Assessment, intervention, and evaluation (in accordance with [Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)]
- Work under the guidance of Senior OT staff.
- Assess and intervene with a designated caseload of adults with mental health needs, using:
- Evidence-based principles
- Recovery-focused frameworks
- Opportunities to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment.
- Integrate evidence-based practice, assessments, and interventions with personal recovery principles to improve service users’:
- Quality of life
- Ability to live according to their goals.
- Contribute to:
- Service development initiatives (local and Trust-wide)
- Supervision and appraisal for unqualified staff and peer support workers (as required).
- Apply an understanding of:
- Effects of mental illness and physical conditions
- Lifestyle changes and environmental adaptations.
- Assessments for equipment/aids and adaptations.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Registered with the [HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council)].
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
Experience
Essential:
- Experience in a mental health setting (voluntary, student, or paid).
- Group facilitation experience.
