The Role
Head of Flight Crew
Salary: £69,000- £76,000
As Head of Flight Crew, you will lead the pilot community, providing strategic and operational leadership to ensure a safe, engaged and high-performing workforce.
Working closely with senior stakeholders across Air Operations and the wider business, you will be accountable for flight crew people management, industrial relations, resource planning and the delivery of initiatives that support the continued growth and success of BA Euroflyer.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and develop the BA Euroflyer Flight Crew function, creating a high-performing, safe, engaged and customer-focused pilot workforce.
- Provide strategic leadership and representation for Flight Crew, contributing to Air Operations strategy, policy development and business priorities.
- Own all Flight Crew people management activity, ensuring effective management of performance, conduct, welfare, engagement and colleague experience.
- Lead industrial relations activity with BALPA, including consultation, negotiation and the management of Flight Crew agreements and relationships.
- Ensure the business has the right pilot resource and capability, working with recruitment, training, crewing and operational teams to maintain an effective and sustainable workforce.
- Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement, promoting safety, operational reliability, compliance and customer service performance across the Flight Crew community.
- Act as the senior Flight Crew leader and escalation point, representing BA Euroflyer with internal and external stakeholders, supporting major change initiatives and contributing to operational resilience and crisis management activity.

What You’ll Bring To British Airways
- Proven experience leading and developing large, operationally focused teams in a complex environment.
- Strong experience in industrial relations, including building effective Trade Union partnerships, consultation and negotiation.
- Inspirational leadership skills, with the ability to engage, motivate and influence people at all levels.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with a track record of building productive relationships across internal and external partners.
- Sound judgement and decision-making ability, particularly in complex or time-sensitive situations.
- Resilient and calm under pressure, with the ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, balancing business, operational and colleague needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, confident and credible direction.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, supported by excellent attention to detail.
- Highly customer-focused, with a strong understanding of the link between operational performance, colleague experience and customer outcomes.
- Commercially aware, with a good understanding of the financial and strategic challenges facing BA Euroflyer and the wider BA Group.
Your Experience
- Experience of leading and managing a large team of people
- Ability to motivate and lead a team and involve others
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with all internal and external customers
- Demonstrate good judgement when making decisions
- Ability to remain calm in high pressure situations
- Proven negotiation skills
- Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to give clear, confident instructions
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail
- Demonstrate excellent analytical skills
- Demonstrate high levels of customer awareness
- Experience of leading industrial relationships and managing Trade Union engagement (Desirable)
