Operations Officer – Babyzone Preston

Contract Details

  • Hours: 8:30am to 3:00pm on Wednesdays in term time
  • Wage: £13.45 per hour
  • Location: Inspire Vault Youth Zone, Tithebarn Street, Preston, PR1 1DN
  • Reporting to: Head of Babyzone Preston

About Babyzone

Babyzone is a charity dedicated to supporting parents of children aged 0 to 5 years, helping to remove barriers that prevent access to high-quality early years provision.

Each Babyzone offers:

  • A soft play area
  • Evidence-based early years classes
  • A clean, safe, and welcoming environment (for one day a week)

Babyzone is fully accessible, inclusive, and absolutely free. Families do not need to sign up, show any personal details, or pay—just drop in and enjoy a space to talk, read, sing, and play together.

The new Babyzone Preston has a target of welcoming 180+ families per week, aiming to be just as well-attended as other sites.


The Role: Operations Officer

The Operations Officer is the welcoming face of Babyzone Preston, ensuring the operation runs smoothly from setup to close.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Setup & Packing Away

    • Reorganise furniture and layout to meet families' needs
    • Clear hazards and ensure a safe, inviting space
  • Class & Play Area Support

    • Assist with equipment for external class leads
    • Set up, manage, and secure soft play/exploration areas during the day
    • Maintain safety (e.g., no food/shoes on mats, tidy and hazard-free environment)
  • Space Enhancement

    • Organise and maintain spaces like the book corner
    • Ensure smooth flow for buggy parking and baby-changing facilities
  • Family Interaction

    • Warmly welcome each family upon arrival
    • Engage with children and parents, fostering community and relationships
    • Signpost families to relevant local services
  • Data & Communication

    • Record family attendance via a digital postcode form
  • Problem-Solving & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Address issues raised by families or class leaders on-site
    • Welcome external visitors and ambassadors
  • Culture Advocate

    • Champion Babyzone’s mission and inclusive values
    • Regularly share best practice with the Head of Babyzone Preston

Person Specification

To excel in this role, you should bring:

  • A genuine passion for engaging with parents and young children
  • Strong understanding and support for Babyzone’s mission and principles
  • A motivated, proactive approach, remaining calm and solution-focused under pressure
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion—treating everyone who interacts with Babyzone with respect
  • Awareness of safeguarding children and a shared responsibility to uphold it (Safeguarding training and checks will be provided.)
  • Ability to physically move furniture quickly—e.g., restoring spaces before/after the session
  • Team-oriented with strong verbal communication skills
