Salary: £50,000–£80,000 DOE (Junior to Mid-Level)

We’re now looking for a Backend Engineer to join our lean, agile, and product-focused engineering team as we continue building a modern auto insurance company.
The Role
As a Backend Engineer at Just, you’ll play a key role in:
- Designing, building, and maintaining scalable APIs, services, and systems
- Powering our core platform, mobile applications, and machine learning pipelines
This role won’t involve maintaining outdated legacy systems. You’ll be working on:
- Modern cloud infrastructure
- Greenfield features
- Improving data flows
- Directly influencing technical architecture of a fast-moving product

What You’ll Be Doing

Developing and maintaining Node.js services, spanning:
- Insurance platform
- Mobile apps
- Partner integrations

Contributing to Just’s engineering strategy e.g.:
- Scalability for growing business

Collaborating with product, design, and engineering teams to:
- Deliver high-quality features
- Do so quickly and thoughtfully

Taking ownership of built services, including:
- Reliability
- Observability
- Participation in on-call responsibilities

- Language/Framework: Node.js (with TypeScript)

What We’re Looking For
We hire for candidates passionate about backend engineering, distributed systems, and building reliable software. You should have experience in:
- Node.js (TypeScript or JavaScript)
- Writing well-tested, maintainable code
- System Architecture and Design Principles
- Explaining complex technical concepts to:
- Engineers
- Product teams
- Non-technical stakeholders
Key Requirements
- Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals
- Comfort in a fast-moving environment with Agile/L nuovipreneurshi proposer.
Nice to Have (not essential)
- Startup/Scale-up experience
- Hands-on experience with:
- GCP infrastructure
- GraphQL
- Event-driven architecture
- Familiarity with:
- Terraform
- DataDog monitoring
- Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
- Hexagonal Architecture
