Job Title - Backend Engineer (Senior)
Location - Sheffield, UK
Work Mode - Hybrid – 2–3 days per week onsite (Sheffield)
Employment Type
Contract (Inside IR35)
Duration: 6–21 Months
Experience Required
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in Backend Software Engineering.
- We are looking for Senior Backend Engineers with proven expertise in designing and building scalable backend systems.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to solve complex software engineering challenges and build scalable, reliable backend systems. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on coding skills, experience debugging and enhancing existing applications, and expertise in system design and software architecture. The assessment focuses on coding proficiency, debugging, feature enhancement, and end-to-end system design capabilities.

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend software solutions.
- Build reliable, high-performance, and maintainable backend systems.
- Debug, optimize, and enhance existing codebases.

- Participate in system design discussions and architecture reviews.
- Write clean, efficient, and production-ready code.

Interview / Assessment Process
The interview process includes:
- Hands-on Coding Assessment
- Debugging & Code Enhancement Exercise
- Virtual Whiteboard / System Design Interview
- Deep Architecture Discussion for Senior Engineers
Candidates may complete the coding assessment using any one strong backend programming language (Python, Java, Go, C++, C#, Ruby, Rust, Scala, TypeScript, etc.).
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
- Have a strong backend engineering background with 7+ years of experience.
- Demonstrate excellent coding and debugging skills.
- Be proficient in at least one backend programming language.
- Have experience designing scalable and distributed systems.
- Be comfortable leading technical discussions around architecture and system design.
- Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
