Back End Developer
Senior Python Backend Engineer – AI Agents / FastAPI / FastMCP
Location: Fully Remote (UK-based only) Contract Type: Outside IR35
Build the foundational infrastructure for the next generation of AI agents with a pioneering client at the forefront of agentic AI. You’ll develop the platform enabling organizations to design, orchestrate, and deploy their own customized AI agents. Instead of building a single AI application, your work will focus on creating the backend systems, APIs, and tooling required to construct intelligent, production-ready workflows at scale.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable backend services in Python.
- Develop high-performance APIs using FastAPI.
- Build and maintain MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers using FastMCP.
- Integrate LLMs (Large Language Models) with external systems, tools, and business APIs.
- Architect clean, secure, and scalable backend systems.
- Work closely with AI engineers to enable intelligent agent workflows.
- Develop production-grade services prioritizing reliability, performance, and security.

Requirements
- 5–10 years of commercial software engineering experience, with a focus on Python.
- Deep expertise in Python backend development.
- Proven ability to build and maintain APIs using FastAPI.
- Experience with FastMCP and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Strong knowledge of asynchronous Python programming.
- Proven track record in designing scalable distributed systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of REST APIs and backend architecture.
- Passion for modern AI technologies and developer tooling.
